The Griffin-Lunas

We’re a little family made up of partners/humans Mars and David along with our rescue pups Maple and Lanegan. We’re Minnesota-based and love to travel near and far. Eating is our favorite way to get to know a place.

Q: What were two things that a couple of kids growing up across the country from each other had in common?
A: Animal Planet and Food Network. (Steve Irwin and Alton Brown, if we’re gonna get specific.)

A pair of teenage animal lovers, food nerds, passionate party planners, and music fanatics have an unlikely meeting... The rom-com practically writes itself.

Fast-forward a few years and we want to share our passion for food and gathering with you!

Mars

Born in the most haunted small town in America (Alton, IL) and raised in the suburbs of Minneapolis, MN—I am a Midwesterner at heart. I moved to Seattle, WA just 4 months after I first visited the city as a young adult. After a decade of life in the PNW, it was time to return to Minneapolis, which has always felt like home. Food & gathering are two of my most notable passions, of course, that’s why I’m ½ of Power Plant! Other than what you see here, you can find me riding my bike, planning my next trip, cuddling my dogs, setting up campsites, and making spreadsheets for minor occasions.

David

I say I was born and raised in Washington—which is true—but growing up I also lived in California, New Jersey, and Minnesota. Through all the bouncing around, and after more than a decade straight in the Seattle area, we made our way back to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Does it feel like home to us? You betcha!

It may go without saying that I care about animals (running a vegan food blog and all) but I truly do fall in love with every bird and squirrel I see. Mars calls me a human encyclopedia because I can nerd out about anything from fair labor and trade practices to clothing and textiles to D&D to music to bicycles to...

Right now I’m probably cooking or eating. If I’m not, then I’m probably thinking of what to cook and/or eat next.
